Gennady Suhih
Director, National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation
Gennady T. Sukhikh was born on 4 May 1947 in Orenburg, Russia. In 1971, he graduated from the Orenburg State Medical Institute with honors. In 1974, he defended his PhD thesis “Individual differences and regularity of anatomic structure of extramedullar spinal veins”.
From 1981 to 1986, G. Sukhikh worked as a Senior Researcher in the Research Institute for Pathology and Physiopathology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1985, he defended his doctoral thesis “Mechanisms of stress related disorders of natural resistant cells and approaches to their correction”.
From 1986 to 2007, he was the head of the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology of the Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology. In 1993 he was awarded the title of Professor, in 1997 he was elected as a Correspondent Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and in 2005 – Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences.
Since 2007 Professor Sukhikh holds the position of the Director of the National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia – the leading institution in the Russian Federation, carrying out extensive research, clinical, educational and coordinating work, and the headquarters of the Russian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and of the major national Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Research interests of academician Sukhikh cover a wide range of the priority trends of the modern reproductive medicine and biology. He is one of the first scientists in Russia, who started studying the possibilities of application of stem cells for therapeutic purposes. In recent years, the interests of academician Sukhikh cover a wide range of problems on organization of healthcare and medical science, perinatal medicine, reproductology, and molecular biology.
Gennady Sukhikh is the author of more than 900 scientific papers, 15 monographs; he possesses 19 patents. In 2008 in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Gennady Sukhikh was awarded the honorary title “Honored Master of Science of the Russian Federation”.
G. Sukhikh was the Order for Services to the Fatherland of the IVth and IIIrd Degrees (2012, 2014) and Order of Alexander Nevsky (2017).
