Safe, healthy food is essential to preventing many forms of illness. As part of the ‘Demography’ national project, Rospotrebnadzor has introduced a system for monitoring the compliance of food products with macro and micronutrient indicators, carrying out more than 1.2 million studies over the past six years and establishing a unique database. An evaluation was carried out of the food eaten by 675,000 school-age children in 16,000 schools. More than 30,000 school menus have been adjusted to make them healthier. A modern strategy was developed to inform, educate, and train people to eat healthy, successfully changing eating habits and reducing nutrition-related diseases in children. The core of the programme will develop through 2025–2030 to ensure the continuity of the results achieved. To reverse current trends and ensure healthy eating, good quality food must be safe and easily available, and people must be motivated to make long-term changes to their dietary habits. What is the state doing federally and regionally at present? How is modern Russian science contributing to the resolution of this issue? Is the business community ready to promote healthy nutrition responsibly? How will the tools developed be applied in new national projects?
