Tour description:

The visitors will learn about leading units for immunohistochemical, molecular genetic, and radiological research methods, in which the National Medical Research Radiological Centre is the reference centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, as well as the most modern cancer treatment technologies being introduced at the National Medical Research Radiological Centre and replicated in the regions. There will be a demonstration of the capabilities of the telemedicine system.

In the visitors are interested, they can arrange a separate meeting with specialists from the Russian Cancer Registry (cancer accounting and registration system in Russia).

The Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute is the oldest oncological institution in Europe and the world and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
Since 2014, it has been part of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation as a branch that remains the flagship of Russian oncology.

The institute’s glorious history is full of brilliant names and achievements in the history of Russian medicine: one of the first directors, Vladimir Zykov, was the founder of radiation therapy in Russia and receiving radium needles from the Curies. Alexander Savitsky, the director in the 1940s, is considered the main ideologist behind the creation of the country’s oncology service system, which still exists today. The Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute has maintained the Russian Cancer Registry since its foundation.

Today, the institute offers a full range of modern diagnostic capabilities, as well as the combined and complex treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients, including molecular genetic diagnostics, whole genome sequencing, endoscopic technologies, PET CT, reconstructive plastic surgery, X-ray endovascular methods, high-dose chemotherapy with bone marrow transplantation, unique technologies of intra-abdominal high-dose chemotherapy, radiation therapy, including Cyber Knife, and much more.

The Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute is implementing higher educational programmes with residency and postgraduate studies in the following areas: oncology, radiotherapy, radiology, ultrasound diagnostics, pathological anatomy, anaesthesiology, resuscitation, and endoscopy.
It trains students from both Russia and other countries.
It also offers continuing professional education programmes.
As part of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre, it is a reference centre for pathomorphological, immunohistochemical, molecular genetic, and radiological research methods.
