Obesity has become a global and socially significant problem, as the number of overweight people is steadily increasing worldwide. Obesity diminishes people’s quality of life and is a key risk factor for numerous chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, which are all leading causes of death. In the public consciousness, an abnormal increase in body fat remains a purely aesthetic issue, while the global trend towards body positivity is positioning the acceptance of excess weight as a social norm. This critically low public awareness of the severe, and often irreversible, consequences of obesity requires immediate systemic solutions. Today, solutions need to be found both within the healthcare system and at the level of interagency cooperation – from regulating the food market to promoting sports and digital education. Comprehensive regulatory measures are needed, including extensive outreach and awareness-raising work, educational policy, accessible preventive care and referrals for patients with obesity, as well as standards in the food industry, catering sector, and healthy lifestyle infrastructure. How can we create widespread public awareness about the medical risks of obesity? What educational and awareness-raising initiatives could promote this? What legislative decisions should facilitate access to preventive care and treatment for overweight people? How can we establish effective collaboration between government, social, and public institutions to create comprehensive strategies to combat the spread of obesity? How can we foster a culture of individual responsibility so that people look after their own health, including making changes in their lifestyle, diet, and physical activity?
