An integrated approach to combating cardiovascular diseases was discussed at the National Healthсare Congress 2024

The 3rd National Congress with International Participation “National Healthcare” held an expert discussion ‘Heart of the Nation: An Integrated Approach to Cardiovascular Disease’ within the track ‘Uniting Prevention and Treatment’.

The Congress was held with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation. The event was organized by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Roscongress Foundation. The organizing partner of the event was the Central Research Institute of Health Care Organization and Informatics of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. In order to preserve and extend the lives of patients suffering from these diseases, the federal project ‘Fighting Cardiovascular Diseases’ was initiated in Russia as part of the national project ‘Healthcare’. Measures taken under the project to equip medical organizations with modern equipment and technologies have significantly improved the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular diseases in patients.

The discussion was moderated by Evgeny Shlyakhto, General Director of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Chief Visiting Cardiologist Specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation: “Fighting cardiovascular diseases is one of the most critical tasks of modern society, requiring a comprehensive approach, active discussions and coordinated efforts. It is important to understand that effective counteraction to cardiovascular diseases requires not only medical innovations and clinical research, but also large-scale preventive measures, including public education, promotion of healthy lifestyles and creation of accessible screening programmes. Government agencies, healthcare providers, scientific institutions, public organizations and citizens themselves must join forces to develop and implement strategies that will help reduce risks and improve the quality of life for millions of people. It is only through joint action and comprehensive support that significant progress can be made in combating this global challenge.”

The session was also attended by Evgeny Kamkin, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation; Sergey Boytsov, Director, National Medical Research Centre of Cardiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Chief Visiting Cardiologist Specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; Elena Golukhova, Director of the Bakulev National Medical Research Centre for Cardiovascular Surgery of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Chief Visiting Arrhythmologist Specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; Alexander Gershtansky, Minister of Health of Arkhangelsk Region; Elena Gnedovskaya, Deputy Director for Scientific and Organizational Work, Director of the Institute of Medical Education and Professional Development of the Scientific Centre of Neurology; and Irina Panarina, General Manager of AstraZeneca Russia and Eurasia.

During the discussion, the experts discussed the interim results and current achievements of the federal project ‘Fighting Cardiovascular Diseases’; what problems and challenges are now associated with the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the timely detection of risk factors for the development of complications; and what further steps should be taken to continue the effective implementation of the project and achieve the goals set to reduce mortality from cardiovascular diseases in the country.

The Congress was held on 28 October 2024 in the Lomonosov Cluster of the Sparrow Hills ISTC of Moscow State University and in the Grand Hall of the State Kremlin Palace on 29 October 2024.
