Russia is launching the new Family National Project, which includes five federal projects that aim to create effective tools to provide comprehensive support for the institution of family at the level of all generations. The modernization of social infrastructure with the involvement of institutions of the medical care system and public education to support young couples who want to create a full-fledged family, as well as families with children of all ages, the optimization of a system of measures to improve housing conditions for Russian families, and the development of active longevity programmes and a system of long-term care for the elderly should help to achieve the national goal of preserving the population, improving people’s health and well-being, and supporting the family. Traditional family values should become the basis for strengthening the institution of family, since it is a basic guideline for creating a culture of intra-family beliefs based on the traditions of having multiple children, responsibility for the health of all family members, respect for the older generation, and care for young people. What government decisions will help build a holistic interagency system of family support? What measures will be taken to boost the availability of medical care for young families as they decide whether to have a child and after birth, as well as for the elderly? How can a responsible attitude towards one’s health and commitment to a healthy lifestyle be incorporated into basic family values? How will various aspects of supporting young parents and caring for the younger generation and older people be taken into account when preparing the national project? What support measures will help families choose to have lots of children?
